We got our treasured Irish nationality after the Brexit fiasco.
I knew that my Grandad was Irish and I was always proud of that heritage. We weren’t so sure about my wife’s grandad but after a bit, well a lot of digging, we found his birth certificate and both applied to the Register of Foreign Births.
Fast forward six months and we have our certificates of Irish Nationality! That called for a Guinness at the ‘Tir Na Nog’ pub in Wandsworth.
Next we got our passports. The first time we used them was to travel to Valencia during the Six Nations in 2018. So we went to the St Patrick’s pub in Valencia to watch Ireland beat England to win the Six Nations! For a new Irish citizen, it doesn’t get better than that!
We spent the rest of the evening raucously singing songs like the Black Velvet Band and I was the only one who new all the words!
